Perfect Diet Tracker App Reviews

Great app

The app description says "Full international support" but it does not mean that the whole app is available in any language. In fact the app is in English, "Full international support" meaning that you can choose your unit system (metric or British). But if you are not bothered by the language, this is a great app, stable, easy to use, with a very large database of foods. And if you cannot find the food you want in the database, you can create it and re-use it afterwards. This was he first diet app I bought and, since the time I bought it, I have never felt the urge to switch to another one so I cannot compare with other diet follow up apps and tell whether it is the best one. But what I can tell is that this one is quite good. Losing weight is not easy by any means and using such an app will not make you lose weight, but at least you will have a good visibility of your calorie intake and you will not be able to make excuses: when you snack a pack of potato chips, its 400 kcal added to your balance and that is it. No way to escape that. And when you convince yourself to walk for 30 mn its 120 kcal off your balance sheet. Basic algebra. Whether you make an effort or indulge yourself is up to you, but, with that app, at least you know exactly what you are doing.

FIRST Impression Impressed

Just downloaded it and started using it, and I am impressed so far. Easy to use, easy to navigate, simple to add products or exercises. User friendly in such a way that I will keep using it, even if really busy or cheating on diet. It would be great to have a supporting app for iphone, so one can add food or exercises using either the Mac or iPhone!

Great Application! Easy to Use

This application is very user friendly. It provides an easy way to track weight, daily eating habits, excerise and helps set the parameters in which you should stay to reach your goal(s). The food database is extensive and accurate, but it allows you to add your own food items as well.

Will be better when listed food database is on par with free online sites

From the reviews online I figured this would be better than what I was getting for free at a popular online calorie / fitness tracking site, but it isnt. Ive already had to go to my former online account three times to look up calorie counts of things that dont show up at all in the food database here. Everything else is similar, except I paid money for this. Choices are limited too for example... Brocolli: Green Giant brocolli and Eatsmart brocolli salad, are the only choices for North America... where is just a raw head of grocery store brocolli? It does not come with a label stuck to it so I cannot enter that myself... unless I go take the data from a different online site and add it here, which is time consuming and lame. Kefir...same thing, ONE choice only, 16 choices for free on my online web tracker. If this isnt an issue for you then youll probably really like this program. Other than that its very user friendly and nicely laid out.

Big Help

A bit of a learning curve but is a very very useful tool/aid. Highly recommended for ALL.. Updates keep making it better. Youve nothing to lose but adiposity. Buy it- Trust me.

I like this but...

It should have a fridge section where you store all your frequently eaten foods or a favourites col. especially if you have to enter a new food in listing all the nutrients. I bought it because I didnt want to pay an online monthly charge for my former diet tracker so price wise it is a saving. Just put a "fridge" in please.

Perfect Diet Tracker

I purchased this on the weekend and although it keeps track of food eaten and exercise very well, the only thing missing that I dont like about it it wont let you combine individual foods into your own recipes to get the nutritional values, the portions, and facts and labels and save it in all one place. I use ND Nutrition Facts web site which allows this. So I have to go from the site to my app constantly to get the nutritional values of all my homemade recipes. It would be nice if they would upgrade this app to include this, then it would be perfect.

This is a game changer for me

Wow. I installed app this morning and already Im counting, making better choices and revising my shopping list. Just what I needed. You cant make changes until you start counting. Way to go!

WAY too many bugs and glitches.

This was a terrific program if you needed to lose weight, follow a particular diet plan or simply wanted to keep track of your nutritional intake. Unfortunately the last update contains an enormous amount of bugs and glitches. The program now freezes regularly. My exercise data and favourites disappeared after the update. It will not sync the daily diary with the mobile version which I also unfortunately bought and which also contains so many bugs that it makes for an exasperating user experience. Dont buy it until the bugs get sorted.

Good program but last update was buggy

I have been using this app for six months now and its been very helpful to monitor what I eat and how much exercise Im getting. Unfortunately the last update was pretty buggy and a few key features are not working. The lines on the graph plotting net calories versus consumed calories are now overlapping and dont seem to be factoring in exercise. Which brings me to my second complaint: while you can copy and paste a previous days food to the enxt day (great!) when you copy and paster exercise over it doesnt factor into your daily calorie allowance. So I have to manually look up each days exercise, which wastes time. Also, while the food database is expanding, I am shocked how much of this food is prepackaged junk. How about homemade food? I know the nutritional information can vary depending on whos doing the cooking, but even ballpark estimates would be helpful. Okay, having said all this, I like this program and its helped me lose 16 pounds so far. And I attribute that weight loss almost solely to watching what Im eating a bit more carefully.

Great!

I love this app. Simple design, large database. It is a great calorie tracker/protein/fat/etc when you need to calculate your % intake. However, I noticed an interesting feature on a free website, which tells you your daily vitamin intake. The fact that their stuff was messy and ugly redirected me towards Perfect Diet Tracker. However, if PDT could enter that feature in a tab, then THAT would make it perfect.

now completely useless

was quite a good app that synched not to badly with its rather clunky iPad app, but with the current release it is totally useless, crashes instantly on opening and repeatedly, tried rebooting both iMacs that it is on and then opening still the same, something is VERY wrong with the 3.8.7001 version

Not worth paying for.

Im not sure how this app has received so many positive ratings. Perhaps I havent explored it enough, but I find it lacking. Ive been using it for 4 days and on several occasions searches for common food/drink items, i.e. Diet Coke, result in nothing, or something not even remotely similar (in the case of Diet Coke, I got Cookies). A friend of mine started counting calories at the same time I did, and she downloaded a free iPhone app (I acknowledge the iPhone apps are different than computer apps, but still) called My Fitness Pal. It does the same, if not more (she can use her phone camera to scan a bar code on a product and get nutritional info), and again … it was free. I am sorely disappointed in this app.

I have tried several - this is the one I purchased!

This program works great in Lion, tracks almost everthing I eat - and you can add custom foods easily! I tracks weight and excersize too. What blew me away is that I can track anything else I wish... I added an AM glucose level as well as an eveing glucose in a snap using their custom data feature... AND it will graph the data just as easily and beautifully as I graphs food, nutrition etc. Highly recommended... what this type of product should. I am a reasonably sophisticated user who has authored database software programs and I know these guys are polished pros doing good work. Robert in San Diego, CA

Great app, but didnt take long to wish their was a mobile version

I like this app a lot, the database keeps growing with the user entries (which makes the database a little messy and unverified, but nevertheless, very useful) and it is certainly robust in its tracking, graphing, reporting, etc… BUT, I dont like how I have to remember at the end of the day everything I ate, I desperately want it to sync with a mobile version that I can use throughout the day.

Great app, could be perfect

Overall, this app is very useful and far better than any others that Ive tried, particularly the much cheaper ones in the App Store. The database is vast and the only time Ive had to enter information on my own is for regional products. The international database is impressive and much better than in any other app Ive tried. Also, the free trial (available from their website) is a huge plus - its what sold me on the full version. That said, I have some suggestions for improvements: a full nutritional database, at least for staple foods. It would be nice to know if Im getting enough vitamins and mineral through the foods Im eating alone. Full screen mode! And as someone already suggested, an iPhone app that goes with it would be great, especially if it were free for those who purchase the Mac version.

Very Sophisticated and in Depth App

This app was everything i expected and more! I expected it to track my weight loss and weight gain etc. But what i didnt expect was the wide range of different things you can do with this app. This app has everything from how many calories you need to eat in a day, to how many calories you burn off when you exercise. This app also has a particularly sophisticated food bank that has everything from how many calories, grams of fat, protein, and sodium of a food or drink. Very cool and useful app and would recomend it to anyone who is serious about changing or tracking their eating, exercise, and weight loss/weight gain goals.

Great for Keeping on Track!

I have used several apps for tracking calories and exercise over the years, but this one is the best ever! Quick and simple, and you get immediate results as to what calories you are consuming - protein, carbs, fat, alchohol. Very eye opening! And thats the beauty of it! This app is making me aware of these and I can adjust accordingly throughout the day to make sure that my diet is balanced! FANTASTIC! Thank you!

Great app for tracking carbs as well as calories

Ive used this app since last spring. Not only is this a great app for dieters, it is great to plan meals, track carbs and exercise. As a diabetic, Ive found this a very useful tool for carb counting and exercise tracking for blood sugar control. The app gives you a lot of flexibility entering portion sizes, and allows you to input and save recipe ingredients of favorite dishes for quick entry in the future. Worth every penny!

Makes You Think

I love love love this Perfect Diet Tracker. It is really educating me as to what food choices I am making. The pie charts allow me to see how much fat, carbs. proteins etc. I am consuming and allows me to make my own adjustments. It really is teaching me to be smarter about my choices. Its one thing to have someone else telling me what and how much I should eat but this program is breaking it down so that I am the learning seeing and doing. I used another tracker called Diet Power which is very similar to this one but they do not produce a Mac version so I was very excited when I saw this one, this one is acutually easier to use. Some people might not want to have to enter foods that may not be listed but there are about 90,000 food choices listed in The Perfect Trackers Data Base so I am finding that very few foods have to be hand entered. The program is so easy to use and if entering a few foods is required, well I feel that I am worth the effort. Anyway its like keeping a food diary very little effort is involved. Even Weight Watchers encourages its members to keep a food diary. I have also done Weight Watchers Points Plus not really being helped to understand the Point values, just meeting my point requirements each day and paying a monthly fee. I did lose weight but I would rather keep the fees and be the one in control of my understanding nutrition and living a healthier lifestyle. Thank you for making this program available I am really enjoying it.
